We provide same-day emergency care for adults in community clinics across Somerset. Our aim is to assess, diagnose, treat and then send you home usually on the same day, without the need to stay in a hospital bed overnight.
Although we provide emergency care, we are different from an Emergency Department (A&E). This means we will not be able to see you unless your GP has referred you to us directly with an appointment or you are transferred from another hospital.
Our service is run by highly trained nurses who carry out a wide range of routine and advanced procedures including blood transfusions, catheter fit and removal, complex wound care, chemotherapy disconnection, chest drains and others. Usually you will be sat on a chair or a couch during your treatment, rather than lying in a bed.
Referrals for ambulatory care
We accept referrals from health care professionals only using agreed referral documentation to ensure safe provision of care and clear clinical governance.
Referrals for GP ambulatory assessment bed (Frome Community Hospital)
Please contact the hospital direct to discuss inpatient treatments for urgent care available and arrange for patient to be seen.
